Helped Bulldogs Move In To First Place With Wins Over Princeton & Penn
NEW HAVEN, Conn. – For the fourth time this season and the second consecutive week Yale volleyball freshman Kendall Polan (Cardiff, Calif.) has been named the Ivy League Rookie of the Week. Polan averaged 8.33 assists, 2.33 kills and 5.0 digs per set as the Bulldogs swept past then league leaders Penn and Princeton, both in straight sets, to move into first place.
On Friday against Princeton, Polan just missed a triple double, striking for nine kills, 15 digs and 20 assists as Yale came from behind in each of the first two sets. In a play that summarized the weekend, Polan's diving, one-handed dig kept a Princeton attack in the air during the second set. Teammate Erica Reetz took the ball next and set up Katie Cordell for the clinching point in a 26-24 Bulldog win.
The next night against Penn, Polan tallied 30 assists, 15 digs and five kills in a three-set sweep.
Entering this weekend's play, Polan leads Yale and ranks third in the conference in assists per set (9.36).
The Bulldogs host Dartmouth on Friday at 7 p.m. and then Harvard on Saturday at 6 p.m.
