13 Home Matches In John J. Lee Amphitheater
NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Home matches against a perennial top 30 team and one of the ACC's rising programs highlight the 2011 Yale volleyball schedule, as well as a trip to another ACC contender, Maryland. In all, the Bulldogs will play 13 of their 24 matches at home, where they posted a 10-1 record last year.
"This is a great schedule for our young squad," associate head coach Kevin Laseau said. "There's a great mix of teams that should challenge us before the Ivy League season gets rolling."
The season kicks off with the Yale Invitational, when the Utes and Eagles invade the John J. Lee Amphitheater along with Patriot League front-runner Colgate. The Bulldogs face Boston College in the season opener on Sept. 2 and then meet Colgate and Utah on Sept. 3.
The following weekend Yale heads to the Maryland Invitational for matchups with the Terps along with 2010 conference champions Delaware (Colonial Athletic Association) and Sacred Heart (Northeast Conference).
New Hampshire, Quinnipiac and Army provide the opposition for the Yale Classic on Sept. 16-17, the last home competition before Ivy League play begins at home on Sept. 24 against Brown. Yale has its first five league matches at home before embarking on a five-match road trip.
In between the Bulldogs will take on 2010 America East Conference champions Albany in New York on Sept. 21. The final home weekend is Nov. 4-5 against Penn and Princeton.
The Bulldogs return nine letterwinners from last year's Ivy League Championship team, including First Team All-Ivy performers Bridget Hearst '12 and Kendall Polan '14, and Second Team All-Ivy middle hitter Haley Wessels '13. Polan was also Ivy League Rookie of the Year.
