Bulldogs Return to Court Later Tonight

SAN DIEGO -- Despite a crowd dominated by Yale supproters, the Bulldogs lost to No. 17 San Diego on Saturday afternoon.  San Diego native and sophomore Mollie Rogers posted a team-best 18 digs and nine kills for Yale in the match. 

The scores of the match were 25-14, 25-19 and 25-17.  

About 100 Yale fans -- including Yale alumnae from past volleyball teams, family members and friends -- represented most of the 202 in attendance today.

Kelly Johnson's kill and an attack error brought Yale to within 15-13 in the first set.  From there, the Toreros controlled the set and the match.  

San Diego (7-2) scored the next eight points.  Chloe Ferrari closed out the set and tallied a match-high 13 kills, and hit. 812 for the match.

Johnson finished with eight kills, eight assists and four digs.  

During the second set, the Bulldogs scored five straight to pull within 12-11.  Rogers started the rally, and was follwed by a Maya Midzik kill, a Rogers block, a kill from Jesse Ebner and an attack error.

The Toreros scored the next three points before Rogers stopped the rally with a kill.  San Diego regained a 17-12 edge after scoring the next two points. 

Johnson responded with a kill and Karlee Fuller served up an ace to cut the deficit back to three.  

Alaysia Brown delivered a kill on the next point for San Diego.  Ebner brought the Bulldogs back to within three.  

Ferrari and Johnson traded kills before the Toreros scored the next three to take control of the set. 

San Diego raced out to a 10-1 lead in the third.  The Bulldogs came back with three of the next four points thanks to two kills from Johnson, but struggled to get any closer.

The Bulldogs face Fresno State at 8 p.m. ET in their final match of the San Diego Invitational.  Fresno State defeated UC Santa Barbara earlier today in five sets.
