McHaney Carter Hits .538 with Seven Kills in Yale's Final Match of USD Tourney
SAN DIEGO -- Mollie Rogers earned all-tournament honors following a team-high, 10-kill performance in a 3-0 loss to Fresno State on Saturday night.
The scores of the match were 25-18, 25-21 and 25-22.
Kendall Polan added 29 assists, 10 digs and seven kills for Yale, which came alive in the third set and failed to maintain a lead.
Down 2-0 in sets, Yale led 11-10 in third and extended its lead. Erica Reetz deposited one of her four kills on the next point.
Following a Maci Murdock kill for Fresno State, Maddie Rudnick provided two digs during a rally that ended with a Rogers kill down the middle of the court. After a Fresno attack error, Polan setup Rogers to make it 15-11.
Yale (3-5) kept the four-point edge to 19-15. Fresno State scored the next four points until McHaney Carter smashed one of her seven kills with a .538 hitting percentage on the evening.
Marissa Brand responded with one of her 10 kills on the next point to tie the set. Megan Callahan broke the tie with a kill and gave Fresno a lead it would not relinquish.
Yale scored four of the next five points after a two kills apiece from Rogers and Carter. With momentum in its favor, Yale lost the next point on an attack error, and never recovered.
Still trailing 9-7, Fuller provided a kill and Rogers converted a Johnson pass to tie the set. Fresno State scored nine of the next 12 point and eventually won the set.
Yale returns home to face Albany on Wednesday night in its final non-confernece match of the season.
