Yale Announces 2013 Schedule
Penn State, Stanford and Pentagon Trip Await Bulldogs
NEW HAVEN -- The three-time defending Ivy League champion Yale Bulldogs announced their schedule. The 2013 slate features matches against two schools with the most national titles and a unique trip to Pentagon highlight the three-time defending Ivy League's champion Yale Bulldogs' 2013 schedule.
Yale will face six-time national champ Stanford the weekend of Sept. 13 and 14 during a special tournament at the Pentagon in Washington, DC. The Bulldogs also compete against Army and Air Force in the event.
The next weekend, Yale will play at Penn State, a Final Four team last year that owns five national titles and participate in a tournament on Sept. 20 and 21. Yale head coach Erin Appleman spent eight years as an assistant at Penn State and helped lead the Nittany Lions to the 1999 national championship and five Final Fours.
"Every weekend of our schedule will be challenging and exciting," Appleman said. "The once-in-a-lifetime visit inside the Pentagon will be special for our student-athletes and our staff. I'm also very happy we have the opportunity to go back to Penn State and experience everything associated with high-caliber volleyball."
The Bulldogs, who finished the Ivy League season undefeated last year, will open the 2013 season with the Yale Classic on Sept. 6 and 7. The Yale Classic will feature matches against Missouri of the SEC, Seton Hall (Big East) and defending Patriot League champs Colgate.
The Ivy League season kicks off with five straight home matches for Yale beginning on Sept. 28 against Brown. The following weekend, the Bulldogs will host Harvard and Dartmouth.
On Oct. 11, Yale will host Princeton and face Penn the next day. The Bulldogs start a five-match conference road trip on Oct. 18 at Cornell with a match at Columbia the next day.
Yale closes out its home schedule the weekend of Nov. 8 and 9. The Bulldogs host Columbia on Nov. 8 and play its final home match of the regular season against Cornell the next day.
The final weekend of the Ivy League regular season will take place at Princeton (Nov. 15) and Penn (Nov. 16) for the Bulldogs. Yale travel to Stony Brook on Nov. 26 to close out the non-conference schedule.
