Bulldogs Blitz Harvard in 3-0 Win

Yale Holds 40-15 Edge in Kills, Serves Up Eight Aces

NEW HAVEN, Conn. -- Jesse Ebner and Mollie Rogers blasted 11 kills each in a sweep of Harvard on Friday night.

The scores of the match were 25-17, 25-15 and 25-18.  The Bulldogs improved to 8-3 overall and 2-0 in the conference, while Harvard fell to 6-5 and 1-1 in Ivy play.

The match featured a raucous crowd with the Yale Pep Band also in attendance against the arch-rival Crimson.

"I thought we played a very high level and maintained it throughout the match," Yale head coach Erin Appleman said.  "We had an awesome crowd and that made for a great atmosphere tonight."

Yale dominated the first set and never looked back.

McHaney Carter broke a 2-all tie with a kill and Yale went on to score five of the next six points.  Yale maintained a five-point lead to 10-5, then Tori Shepherd took the Bulldogs to another level.

Shepherd served off seven straight points, which included two aces, to increase Yale's lead to 17-5.  Yale had eight aces in the match and held a 40-15 edge in kills.

The Bulldogs scored 11 of the first 14 points and hit .355 as a team in the second set.    Harvard responded with five of the next six points to cut its deficit to 12-8 until Kendall Polan shifted the momentum.

Polan's kill started an 8-2 run that included three kills from Ebner and two from Rogers to push Yale's lead to 20-10.  Polan finished with 27 assists, 12 digs and four kills.

After a Harvard service error opened the third set, Ebner served five straight points and the Bulldogs opened up another quick lead at 6-1 -- a lead they never gave up.  Later in the set, Rogers smashed a kill and then served up an ace to increase the lead to 18-10.

Kelly Johnson set up a Polan kill, then Polan set up another Rogers kill to increase Yale's lead to 20-10.  Johnson finished with nine assists, eight kills and seven digs.

The Bulldogs host Dartmouth tomorrow at 5 p.m.
