Bulldogs Fall to Rice, 3-0, on Friday Afternoon

HOUSTON -- Megan Rasmussen returned home to Houston and posted a season-high six kills in a 3-0 loss to Rice on Friday afternoon.

The scores of the match were 25-8, 25-15 and 25-20.

Rasmussen, a junior outside hitter and Houston native, surpassed her previous season-high of five kills that she set last weekend against St. Francis-Brooklyn.

The Owls improved to 5-7 overall, a deceiving record for a team that has lost to No.13 BYU, No. 24 USC, Missouri and Utah.  Yale fell to 5-2.

Brittani Steinberg, who is off to a solid senior year start, led the Bulldogs with nine kills and added nine digs.  Claire Feeley had five kills, while Tristin Kott and Kaitlyn Gibbons added four each.

After the Owls won the first two sets, the Bulldogs continued to show fight in third.  Steinberg and Rasmussen went back to back with kills to cut Rice's lead in half to 11-9.

Rice scored 11 of the next 17 points to take a 22-15 edge, however the Bulldogs put together one more run.

Kelsey Crawford (eight assists) set up Rebekah Nemeth for a kill, which was followed by an Owls' error and a kill from Feeley to force a Rice timeout.  It would be as close as Yale would get.

Freshman Franny Arnautou had 19 assists, while sophomore Kate Swanson came up with 18 digs.

Yale returns to action with two matches on day two of the Rice Invitational.  The Bulldogs take on Houston and Texas-Corpus Christi on Saturday.
