Kott Delievers Big Points Late in Match
NEW HAVEN -- Tristin Kott came off the bench and sparked the Bulldogs to a four-set win over Cornell.
The scores of the match were 26-24, 16-25, 25-21 and 25-21.
With the win, the Bulldogs maintain their hold on second place in the Ivy League. Yale improved to 14-4 and 7-2 in the Ivy League.
Kott had seven kills -- including five in the deciding fourth set -- to lift the Bulldogs. Brittani Steinberg had 14 kills and 13 digs to lead the Bulldogs.
Kelley Wirth added 12 kills and reached double figures for the second straight match.
Yale rattled off 10 points in a 12-point stretch, took a 15-7 lead and pulled away from the Big Red in the third to take a 2-1 set advantage.
The Bulldogs hit a blistering .519 in the fourth.
Kott provided big points in the middle of the final set. The freshman tied the set at 10 and gave Yale a 12-11 lead with kills.
Cornell scored three of the next four points to take the score to set point. Yale rallied with a block from Kate Aitkenhead and a kill from Steinberg. On the next point, Shreya Dixit gave Yale the lead with a kill and Steinberg followed to with another to wrap up the set.
The Bulldogs will host Columbia on Saturday at 5 p.m. The Lions defeated Brown in three on Friday evening and stand at 6-3 league play.
