Bulldogs Open Ivy Season With Victory at Brown

PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Kelley Wirth continued her hot hitting and Kate Swanson posted the highest dig total in a three-set match this season for an Ivy Leaguer in Yale's 3-0 win at Brown on Saturday afternoon.  

The Bulldogs opened the conference season with a victory and improved to 7-3 overall.  The scores of the match were 25-18, 25-15 and 25-22.  

Wirth totaled a match-high 15 kills, including two on back-to-back points give Yale a 19-15 lead in the first set.  Today marked the third time in four matches Wirth has posted 10 or more kills.  

Swanson posted 22 digs, marking the second time this season the senior captain has gone for 20 or more digs in a three-set match this season.  Yale had a 55-47 advantage in digs and a 7-3 edge in blocks.

First-year Ellis DeJardin posted a double-double in her first Ivy League match with 13 kills and 11 digs while hitting .387.  Chiara Spain and Samantha Bray added seven kills each.  

The Bulldogs hit .283 for the match, including .400 in the second set to take a commanding 2-0 lead in the match.  Up next, the Bulldogs travel to Penn and Princeton next weekend.
