Sept. 19, 2008
UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - On Friday night, for the first time in program history, the Yale volleyball team challenged the No. 1 ranked team in the nation. The Penn State Nittany Lions, the hosts of this weekend's Penn State Classic, proved exactly why they are the nation's top-ranked team as they swept Yale by scores of 25-7, 25-13 and 25-16.
With the loss, the Bulldogs fall to 3-1 on the season, while Penn State improves to a perfect 10-0.
Junior Alexis Crusey led Yale in kills with five, while junior Cat Dailey and freshman Bridget Hearst each contributed four. Crusey also led the Bulldogs with six digs. Senior captain Ally Mendenhall posted a team-best 18 assists. 2007 AVCA All-American Megan Hodge notched a match-high 12 kills for the Nittany Lions with a hitting percentage of .667.
The Bulldogs are back in action tomorrow, as they wrap up the Penn State Classic with matches against Saint Louis and New Hampshire at 12 p.m. and 4 p.m. respectively.
