NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Junior Alexis Crusey notched her fourth consecutive double-double, and Cat Dailey posted a match-best 16 kills to lead the Yale volleyball team past Dartmouth in straight sets. Dailey and senior Ally Mendenhall also recorded double-doubles for the Bulldogs.
Yale is now 9-3 overall and 3-0 in Ivy League play. Big Green fell to 4-9 overall and 0-3 in league matches.
Despite the sweep, the Bulldogs were far from overpowering on the evening.
"We're going to need to put together a more consistent effort in the future," said Yale Head Coach Erin Appleman. "Dartmouth has a great middle and we couldn't stop them tonight."
Crusey posted 13 kills and 14 digs to solidify her double-double, while Dailey's twofer consisted of 16 kills and 13 digs. Mendenhall notched a match-best 36 assists and shared the match high in defensive digs with sophomore Kelly Ozurovich at 15 each.
Big Green jumped out to an early 6-1 lead in the opening set, prompting Appleman to use her first timeout. Yale refused to roll over and battled back to an eventual 19-19 deadlock. From that point forward, the Bulldogs maintained their momentum with a 6-2 run to wrap up the set by a score of 25-21. Dailey led the Yale offense in the set with seven kills. Mendenhall tallied a set-high 12 assists, and Crusey racked up nine defensive digs to lead all players.
The second was another tight affair, with the two squads splitting the first 24 points to know the score at 12-12. A kill by freshman Bridget Hearst gave the Bulldogs a lead they would not relinquish, as they hung tough for a 25-21 victory. Dailey once again led the way with seven kills. Mendenhall notched 15 assists and five digs to lead all players in both categories.
The Bulldogs were able to give themselves some breathing room in the third set, building a seven point lead at one point en route to a 25-18 win to complete the sweep. Crusey tallied seven kills with a .636 hitting percentage in the frame.
Morgan Covington and Madeline Baird led the Big Green offense with 10 kills apiece. Baird added 10 digs to record a double-double.
Yale will look to remain unbeaten in the Ivy League tomorrow, as a 4 p.m. match with Harvard highlights the Bulldogs' official 30th Anniversary Celebration.
