NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Sophomore Liana Epstein was selected to the USTFCCCA Division I Cross Country All-Academic team. She is one of 104 honorees who have earned a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.25 and finished in the top 15 or top 10% at their NCAA Regional meet.
Epstein made the cut by finishing 11th out of 243 athletes in November's NCAA Northeast Regional meet. She lead the Bulldogs to sixth place overall, which was the program's highest result since 2005. After sitting out her freshman year season, Epstein made an immediate impact upon entering competition this year, finishing first on the team and second overall at HYP in her first collegiate race. She never let up the pace throughout the rest of the season, leading the team at the Princeton Invitional and Heps.
Sheila Reid of Villanova, the NCAA individual champion, was named the USTFCCCA Scholar-Athlete of the Year for the second year in a row. Florida State had six athletes named to the All-Academic team, the highest of any other Division I school. A full release is available here.
