Bulldogs Beat Seven Nationally-Ranked Squads at Wisconsin Invitational

Chapman Leads Yale to 13th-Place Finish

MADISON, Wis. – The No. 30 Yale women's cross country team proved on Friday that it could run with the fastest in the nation as it cruised to a 13th-place finish at the Wisconsin Adidas Invitational, beating seven nationally-ranked teams and tying an eighth. Additionally, of the twelve teams that placed in front of the Bulldogs, ten are ranked in the top 15. With this dominating performance, Yale has shown that it deserves to be considered among the best in the country.

Junior Millie Chapman was the first finisher for the Bulldogs, coming in 49th overall at 20:27. Junior Liana Epstein followed three seconds later, at 20:30, in 53rd place. Another pair of Yale uniforms finished within three seconds of each other as senior captain Nihal Kayali and freshman Emily Stark crossed at 20:49 and 20:51, respectively. Senior Elizabeth Marvin was the final scorer for the Bulldogs, placing 164th in 21:10. Senior Caitlin Hudson (21:49) and sophomore Kira Garry (23:07) also competed in the 327-athlete field.

No. 5 Iowa State won the team title with the second- and fourth-place finishers. No. 9 Cornell placed fifth, edging No. 28 Providence by just one point. Yale tied with No. 15 Toledo for 13th place, three points in front of UCLA.  Among the teams behind the Bulldogs were No. 21 Boston College and No. 27 Minnesota (tied for 16th), No. 12 Vanderbilt (17th), No. 20 San Francisco (20th), No. 26 North Carolina State (21st), Harvard (23rd), usual Ivy powerhouse Princeton (25th), Brown (26th), host and No. 29 Wisconsin (30th), No. 23 Columbia (36th, racing without their usual front-runner Waverly Neer) and Dartmouth (44th without All-American Abbey D'Agostino).

The results of the Wisconsin Adidas Invitational are sure to shake up the national rankings, which will be released anew on Tuesday. After the Central Connecticut Mini-Meet on Oct. 19, the Bulldogs will compete in the Ivy League Heptagonal Championships hosted by Princeton on Oct. 27.
