Yale Women to Contend with High-Caliber Field at Penn State National

Oct. 16, 2008

New Haven, Conn. - The Yale women's cross country team will compete at the Penn State National, hosted by the Nittany Lions in University Park, Pa, on Friday, Oct. 17. This will be the Bulldogs first appearance at the meet, which has become one of the premier events of the NCAA cross country season.

The Bulldogs will test their mettle against the best the country has to offer across numerous divisions. Four NCAA Division I ranked teams (no. 7 West Virginia, no. 19 Georgetown, no. 20 Penn State and no. 28 Duke) will toe the line with Yale along with one of the best NCAA Division II programs (no. 6 Shippensburg University) and the best Canadian college program (CIS no. 1 Guelph). Furthermore, eight regionally ranked teams will make an appearance (Georgia State, James Madison, Kent State, Kentucky, La Salle, Quinnipiac, Richmond and Tennessee), as well as some incredibly dangerous non-ranked teams (Villanova and Wake Forest).

The 6,000-meter women's race will take place at 11:00 a.m. following the men's 5.2 mile race. This will be the Bulldogs opening attempt at the "championship" (6,000-meters is the standardized NCAA championship distance) course length.
