Donaldson Selected as Finalist for Honda Sports Award

Junior Lindsay Donaldson (Lincoln, Mass.) has been selected as a finalist for the 2006-2007 Cross Country Honda Sports Award. This award honors the most outstanding female collegiate cross country athletes in the nation. Donaldson was selected after her historic third-place finish at the NCAA championship last Monday, tied for the third-best finish ever at the NCAAs by an Ivy League woman.

In addition to Donaldson, the finalists are:

Jenny Barringer (University of Colorado)
Sally Kipyego (Texas Tech University)
Arianna Lambie (Stanford University)

American Honda will donate $1,000 to the women's athletic fund of each nominee's university, while the winner's program will receive $5,000.

Ballots are being emailed to all NCAA senior women administrators and the results will be released by next week.

Here is a summary of some of Donaldson's greatest accomplishments:

• Five-time All-America selection and NCAA scorer (twice in cross country, three times in three different events in track)

• 6th (20:40) at NCAAs 2004 (freshman) - ALL-AMERICA, best finish of any freshman in the race
• 41st (20:35.4) at NCAAs 2005 (sophomore)
• 3rd (20:42.7) at NCAAs 2006 (junior) - ALL-AMERICA
• Tied for third-highest finish ever by an Ivy League woman at NCAAs

• 3rd (20:31.2) at NCAA Northeast Regional 2004 (freshman) - ALL-REGION
• 8th (20:54.6) at NCAA Northeast Regional 2005 (sophomore) - ALL-REGION
• 2nd (20:45.9) at NCAA Northeast Regional 2006 (junior) - ALL-REGION

• 2nd (17:16.5) at Heps 2004 (freshman) - ALL-IVY
• 2nd (17:04.3) at Heps 2005 (sophomore) - ALL-IVY
• Heps Champion (17:05.4) 2006 (junior) - ALL-IVY
• Has two of the three fastest times ever run at Heps by an Ivy League woman

Indoor Track Highlights
• 4th (9:24.70) in 3,000 at NCAAs 2005 (freshman) - ALL-AMERICA
• 7th (4:43.74) in mile at NCAAs 2006 (sophomore) - ALL-AMERICA
• Holds school record for the mile run (4:43.56)

Outdoor Track Highlights
• 6th (16:45.83) in 5,000 at NCAAs 2005 (freshman) - ALL-AMERICA
