Oct. 21, 2004

Mathieu Leclerc's goal with 4:06 left in the third was the difference as McGill skated to a 3-2 win over Yale in a men's hockey scrimmage at Ingalls Rink.

Mathieu, who also had an assist, fired a low shot from the right circle that went past Yale goalie Matt Modelski's stick. The goal capped the comeback by the Redmen (3-4-1) that erased a 2-1 lead.

Yale freshman forward David Germain scored at 14:17 of the first period on an assist by Ken Trombetta to even the score at 1-1. Sophomore defenseman Bill LeClerc had the other Bulldog goal, one that gave the Elis a 2-1 advantage in the second frame.

Doug Orr scored the first two goals for the visitors, including a snapshot from the left circle past Yale starting goalie Josh Gartner (11 saves). It was the only goal allowed by the Yale junior. Orr's second came against Modelski (10 saves) midway through the final period on a pretty backhander from 15 feet away.

Mathieu Poitras made 35 stops - including 15 in the final period -- in goal for McGill to earn the victory.

The Bulldogs, who outshot McGill 37-24, host Western Ontario on Saturday at 7 p.m. in an exhibition contest at Ingalls Rink before opening the regular season next week at home.
