New Haven, Conn. -
Despite a pair of goals from Jeff Hristovski, the Yale Bulldogs remained winless as Rensselaer skated away with a 5-2 victory in men's ECACHL hockey action at Ingalls Rink.
The loss drops the Bulldogs to 0-7-0, 0-5-0 in the conference while the Engineers improve to 6-5-1, 2-2-0 in the league. Yale is off to its slowest start since 1987-88 when the squad opened the year 0-11.
Rensselaer opened the game with a power play marker when Chris Hussey Knocked a Kirk MacDonald rebound past Bulldog goalie Matt Modelski. That goal came at the 7:11 mark of the first period.
Yale bounced right back as Hristovski snapped a shot past the glove hand of Engineer goalie Andrew Martin just 23 seconds later.
The score would only remain tied for 1:12 as Tommy Green took advantage of a failed clearing attempt by Modelski, depositing a puck into the vacant net. Rensselaer closed out the first period scoring as Kevin Croxton delivered a second power play goal for a 3-1 lead.
The teams exchanged goals in the second period as Jake Morissette and Hristovski scored just 27 seconds apart.
In the final period, Cody Wojdyla sent a puck from outside Yale's zone into the back of an empty net to seal the victory.
Modelski finished the night with 30 saves, including a breakaway stop on Nick Economakos with time running out. Martin was called on to make only 17 stops as Rensselaer held a 35-19 advantage in shots on goal.
Yale will return to action on Saturday, against Union at 7:00 p.m.
