Eight different players tallied goals in No. 7 New Hampshire's 8-2 non-league victory over visiting Yale in men's hockey at the Whitmore Center.

Yale, which had won three of the five previous meetings, hung in for the first period, only down 2-0 after being outshot 10-7. Matt Modelski, who started the game and finished with 15 saves and six goals allowed in just over 33 minutes, stopped eight pucks in the opening frame. Yale's sophomore goalie, who had a career-high 49 saves in the 1-0 loss to No. 2 Boston College on Tuesday night, ran out of steam against a Wildcat squad that ranks fifth in the nation in scoring.

UNH exploded for five goals in the second period on just 13 shots, while the Bulldogs managed to beat Jeff Pietrasiak (12 saves) twice on seven shots.

Sophomore forward Brad Mills, who leads the Elis with six goals and 17 points, stopped the UNH goal streak at six by converting a Robert Page pass at 15:54 of the second. Mills snuck behind the defense and the blueliner hit him with a perfect feed on the way to the goal. Mills sent a backhander over the UNH goalie's shoulder. Christian Jensen picked up the other assist.

After the Cats made it 7-1, junior forward Nate Jackson notched his fourth goal of the year at 18:16. Robert Burns and Nick Shalek battled for the puck in the corner and both got their sticks on it before it came out to Jackson, who weaved between a pair of defensemen and then tucked the puck on the far side of Pietrasiak.

Backup Peter Cohen played the last 26 minutes between the pipes and stopped 11 of 13 shots for the Elis who fall to 2-15-1.

"We knew they would be very strong offensively, and we knew that they would be reprimanded for their play against DArtmouth (9-8 loss on Wednesday)," said Yale head coach Tim Taylor. "That could be dangerous. There were too many odd-man rushes and we let them get the better of the grade A scoring chances."
