Bulldogs Outshoot Knights 14-9
NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Fairleigh Dickinson didn't have many
scoring chances in Friday's game with Yale, but the Knights made
the most of one of their opportunities. Dominic Reinold scored the
only goal of the game midway through the second half to lead FDU at
a muggy Reese Stadium.
It was frustrating offensive night for the Bulldogs, who had the
better of the play for much of the game but couldn't finish.
"I thought we created a lot of danger, but their keeper made a
couple of nice saves," said Yale head coach Brian Tompkins. "We
can't seem to catch a break."
Yale (1-6-1) had a 14-9 advantage in shots and a 7-5 edge in
corner kicks.
The Bulldogs' best chance of the first half came early. On a
free kick from just outside the box, Andy Hackbarth blasted a shot that FDU goalkeeper Jacob
Lissek knocked away. Andy
Shorten got his foot on the rebound, but Lissek was
able to snare that as well.
The Knights (3-3) broke the scoreless tie at 71:52. Kyle Saviano
sent a long throw in into the box. Reinold settled it, and
left-footed a hard shot into the lower right corner.
Yale had an opportunity to tie with less than three minutes to
play. Scott
Armbrust sent a corner kick into the box. Cody
Wilkins got his head on it, but Lissek made the
save.
Armbrust was back in the Bulldogs' lineup after missing three
games with an injury.
"It was good to have Scott back," Tompkins said. "He definitely
made a difference and will help us going forward."
Bobby
Thalman started in goal for Yale and made three
saves.
The Bulldogs are back in action on Tuesday when they host St.
John's at 8 p.m. The Yale women play Marist at 5:30 p.m.
