Kent Improves to 10-1 in Singles

BOSTON – Fresh off rising to new heights at No. 18 in the ITA poll, the Yale women's tennis team kept its momentum intact Thursday afternoon with a 6-1 win at BU. The Bulldogs are now 9-2 overall, and their nine wins have come by a combined score of 56-10.

Yale kept its streak of doubles point wins intact despite an upset loss at No. 1, where the No. 22-ranked team of senior Vicky Brook and freshman Hanna Yu fell 8-5. Wins at No. 2 (from the No. 24-ranked team of junior Elizabeth Epstein and sophomore Annie Sullivan) and No. 3 (from the No. 38-ranked team of senior captain Steph Kent and sophomore Blair Seideman) made up for that. Kent and Seideman won in a tiebreaker to extend the Bulldogs' streak of doubles point wins to 11 to start the season.

Singles was a more straightforward affair, with Yale winning in the Nos. 2 through 6 spots to finish off the victory. There were some close battles, however, including three-set wins at No. 2 (Yu), No. 4 (Kent, who improved to 10-1 by rallying for two 6-1 wins after dropping the first set 6-3) and No. 5 (Brook). At No. 3, Seideman produced her third straight-set win in a row. Sullivan added a win at No. 6, where her opponent retired after losing the first set 6-0.

BU drops to 4-4 on the season.

The Bulldogs now head to Florida, where they have three matches -- including two against ranked opponents, at No. 12 Miami and vs. No. 25 Mississippi.
