Bulldogs, Huskies Meet For Second Straight Year In New Haven

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Yale men's soccer team takes a break from Ivy League play to host UConn on Tuesday. Kickoff at Reese Stadium is slated for 7 p.m.

Here are storylines for the game:

• The Bulldogs (3-7-1, 2-0-1 Ivy) have posted back-to-back shutouts. Yale blanked Dartmouth 1-0 on Oct. 12 and then played a scoreless tie with Cornell on Saturday.

• The 2-0-1 Ivy League start is the Bulldogs' best since the 1991 team won its first three league games.

• Yale is tied with Princeton and Penn for first place in the league. All three have seven points, one more than Harvard. The Bulldogs play at Penn on Saturday.

• Nick Alers, who anchors Yale's stingy defense, has played every minute of every game. Alers was a candidate for the Senior Class Award but was not selected as one of the 10 finalists.

• Cameron Kirdzik is second in the Ivy League with 32 shots.

• Peter Jacobson is tied for third in the league with four goals.

• Goalkeeper Blake Brown is fourth in the league with a 1.24 goals against average.

• UConn (6-2-5) received votes in last week's NSCAA national poll. The Huskies, though, are candidate to crack the top 25 when this week's poll is released after earning a 2-2 tie at seventh-ranked Louisville on Saturday.

• UConn is unbeaten in its last eight games.

• The Huskies are 14th in the nation in team goals against average (0.64). UConn has yielded just nine goals in 13 games.

• Cyle Larin and Allando Matheson have combined to score 11 of UConn's 18 goals.

• Yale and UConn are playing in New Haven for the second straight year. The Huskies blanked the Bulldogs 2-0 last year and have won the last four meetings. The teams played a scoreless tie in 2008, and Yale's last win in the series was a 1-0 decision in Storrs in 2003.
