Box Score Schlesier Makes 10 Saves
HANOVER, N.H. – A pair of early goals by forward Ali Savage helped the Dartmouth field hockey team to a 4-2 win over Yale Saturday afternoon at Chase AstroTurf Field. Yale got 10 saves from senior goalkeeper Heather Schlesier. The wins moves Dartmouth into a four-way tie for first place in the Ivy League.
Savage scored twice in the first nine minutes, helping the Big Green to a 2-0 lead into halftime. But after getting outshot 16-7 in the first half, the Bulldogs turned the tables and out shot Dartmouth 15-9 in the second. After Eliza Becker extended the Dartmouth lead to 3-0 at 44:01, junior midfielder Nicole Wells scored off a pass from sophomore midfielder Kelsey Nolan less than three minutes later to pull Yale within 3-1.
Dartmouth (5-7, 3-1 Ivy League) extended the lead back to three goals with a tally by midfielder Joanne Nazareth off a rebound with less than 20 minutes to play. The Bulldogs crept closer on a penalty corner goal by Nolan with 5:10 to play, but that was the end of the scoring. The Big Green's Ellen Meyer finished with eight saves.
In addition to Schlesier's 10 saves, Yale also got a defensive save from junior back Noelle Villa. Freshman midfielder Carol Middough led all players with nine shots.
Yale (2-10, 0-4 Ivy League) visits No. 4 UConn Sunday at 2:00 p.m.
