Ree Ree Li Steps Up at No. 1
NEW HAVEN, Conn. —Friday afternoon at the Cullman-Heyman Tennis Center the No. 53-ranked Yale women's tennis team defeated Bryant 6-1 to move to 6-6 on the season. The home team took the doubles point before winning five of six singles matches.
Sophomore Madeleine Hamilton and senior captain Annie Sullivan, who play Nos. 1 and 2 singles, took the day to rest and were absent from the lineup. Sophomore Ree Ree Li shifted into the No. 1 spot and had no trouble earning her first win in that position, defeating Marion Boullin 6-0, 6-3. Junior Hanna Yu and freshman Sherry Li also stepped up, as each won in two sets at Nos. 2 and 3, respectively. It was a big day as well for freshman Caroline Lynch, who recorded her first singles victory of the season at No. 6 and helped the Bulldogs earn the doubles point with a dominant performance at No. 3 alongside classmate Sherry Li. Yale's only loss on the day came at No. 4 singles, where junior Amber Li retired in the second set.
Yale will have the day off Saturday before hosting St. John's (N.Y.) on Sunday at 12:00 p.m.
