Box Score

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Two goals in each period provided enough offense for No. 7/8 Quinnipiac to post a 6-3 win vs. Yale Saturday afternoon at TD Bank Sports Center in the Bulldogs' season opener. Yale's goals came from three different players -- senior forward Janelle Ferrara, sophomore forward Emily Monaghan and junior forward Krista Yip-Chuck.

Quinnipiac (4-0-1, 0-0-0 ECAC Hockey) got on the board first, with a goal by forward Nicole Kosta at 9:44 of the first. But Yale (0-1-0, 0-0-0 ECAC Hockey) answered less than four minutes later with a goal from the point by Yip-Chuck, assisted by junior defenseman Taylor Marchin.

The Bobcats grabbed the lead back on a power play goal by Kosta just 92 seconds before the first intermission, and forward Taylar Cianfarano hit the top corner to make it 3-1 QU with a goal at 6:20 of the second.

Junior forward Phoebe Staenz hit the post with a shot during a Yale power play, but the Bulldogs soon got back on the scoreboard anyway. Monaghan's goal, the first of her career, came off the first career assist for freshman forward Jordan Chancellor and brought Yale within 3-2 at 15:26 of the second. But Quinnipiac answered with a goal from forward Melissa Samoskevich two minutes later, taking a 4-2 lead into the third.

Goals from forwards Nicole Connery and Raquel Pennoyer extended the QU lead to 6-2 in the third. Ferrara then scored off an assist from Yip-Chuck at 18:15 to make the final 6-3. Goalie Sydney Rossman finished with 18 saves for Quinnipiac, while Yale junior Hanna Mandl made 20.

This game does not count in the ECAC Hockey standings. The Bulldogs will open ECAC Hockey play next Friday against Princeton at Ingalls Rink, then meet the Bobcats again in an ECAC Hockey game at Ingalls next Saturday.
