American Edges Yale 1-0

Box Score

WASHINGTON, D.C. - On a rainy Saturday afternoon at Jacobs Field in the nation's capital, American edged Yale 1-0 in field hockey. The Eagles scored the game-winner with 13:10 left in the second half.

American (4-1, 0-0 Patriot League) led the nation in shutouts per game last season, and this game marked the Eagles' first whitewashing for 2015. With Yale limited to six shots, goalie Kate McBeath made two saves for the shutout.

Junior goalie Emilie Katz made eight saves for Yale (1-2, 0-0 Ivy League), with American's only goal coming from forward Rafaela Rubas unassisted at the 56:50 mark.

The game was delayed for a half-hour with 6:57 to play when lightning was spotted in the area, and after play resumed  the Eagles held on for the win. Sophomore back Kiwi Comizio and sophomore forward/midfielder Carol Middough were the only Bulldogs to finish with more than one shot.

Yale returns home to host Bryant on Friday, Sept. 18 at 7:00 p.m.; that game was originally scheduled to be played at Bryant but has been moved to Johnson Field.
