Yale Claims Doubles Point; Zordani Victorious at Singles

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The No. 67 Yale women's tennis team concluded the season this Saturday, falling to No. 62 Brown 5-2. Although the Bulldogs took the doubles point and sophomore Elizabeth Zordani won her singles match, Brown managed to achieve five singles victories to win the match.

Playing at No. 1 doubles, senior Madeleine Hamilton and junior Tina Jiang defeated Alyza Benotto and Dayna Lord 6-4. This victory marks the pair's 12th win of the season. In the No. 2 spot, senior captain Ree Ree Li and Carol Finke cruised past Katie Ta and Hannah Camhi without dropping a game. Li and Finke's 6-0 win improves the duo's record to 9-4.

After Yale claimed the doubles point, Brown surged back to win five singles matches. Despite Brown's singles victories, Zordani triumphed against Ammu Mandalap. Although Zordani took the first set in the tiebreak, Mandalap came back to win the second 6-4, forcing the match into a super tiebreak. Zordani won the tiebreak 10-8 for a final score of 7-6, 4-6, 10-8. Senior Courtney Amos also played a three-set match against Maddie Stearns. After Stearns claimed the first set 6-4, Amos charged back to win the second 6-3. With the third set at 5-5, Amos and Stearns competed in a tiebreak to decide the winner. Despite Amos' efforts, Stearns came out on top, winning the tiebreak 9-7 for a final score of 4-­6, 6-­3, 6-­5 (7).

With the end of the season, Yale will see off seniors Amos, Hamilton and Ree Ree Li. Although it will be with a heavy heart to see the seniors go, the Bulldogs will look forward to welcoming the incoming freshmen in the 2016-17 season.
