Colgate Storms Ingalls for 11th Win

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - With a team ranked third nationally, Colgate imposed a tall task for Yale. The Bulldogs couldn't solve the Raiders on Friday night, dropping a 5-1 defeat at Ingalls Rink.

Colgate (12-1-0, 4-1-0 ECAC) opened the game with a bang, firing 10 shots on net before Yale managed their first. Kyra O'Brien (12 saves on 15 shots) managed to stop eight, but two Raiders found the back of the net to stake Colgate to a 2-0 lead.

Yale (2-5-2, 1-4-2) answered after a relentless forecheck produced a turnover. Courtney Pensavalle stole the puck from a Colgate defender and passed it through traffic across the ice to Laura Anderson. Anderson slapped the puck home past Julia Vandyk (17 saves on 18 shots) to cut the Colgate lead in half. The Bulldogs outshot the Raiders 5-2 the rest of the first period, which included a Colgate power play.

The Raiders scored quickly in the second, chasing O'Brien with a 3-1 lead. First-year goalie Gianna Meloni (20 saves on 22 shots) stepped in and made big saves, holding Colgate scoreless before the Raiders popped one in on a deflection. The goal, scored with 10:33 left in the second, gave Colgate a 4-1 lead.

Colgate added a final goal in the third period on the power play on a puck batted around in the crease. Yale finished 5-6 on the penalty kill.

The Bulldogs play again Saturday at 3 p.m. against Cornell.
