Box Score Green Take 3-1 Contest
HANOVER, N.H. - It's quite a challenge to follow up an emotional road win over an arch rival with a productive night. That's what the Yale Men's Hockey Team was trying to do in ECAC play tonight against a hot Dartmouth goalie.
The Big Green came away with its second win in a row, topping Yale 3-1 at Thompson Arena, thanks to the play of Devin Buffalo, the senior goaltender for Dartmouth. He stopped 26 of 27 shots against the Elis, including a couple of big saves in the final few minutes to keep Yale from tying the game on multiple power plays.
Yale beat No. 3 Harvard Friday night 5-2 and was on a two-game win streak.
The Bulldogs, trailing 1-0, got the offense rolling late in the first period on the penalty kill when junior forward Joe Snively found himself all alone with the puck after Yale forward Ted Hart took the puck away from Dartmouth defensemen Connor Yau at center ice. Snively walked it in alone up the middle, slowed up while faking from the backhand to the forehand, and wristed the puck above Buffalo's blocker.
Special teams were the story of the game for both teams. Dartmouth's first goal came midway through the first on a two-man advantage with a one-timer from the bottom of the circle from Alex Jasiek. Yale countered with Snively's shorthanded goal. Then, after the Green broke the tie and made it 2-1, they added some insurance with their own shorthanded goal from Daniel Warpecha, his second shorthanded goal of the weekend.
Yale had a 27-15 advantage in shots tonight. In both of Yale's losses this season, it has outshot its opponents by a significant amount.
