Box Score Kaczperski Makes 34 Saves in Debut
TROY, N.Y. – The Yale men's hockey team had a 1-0 lead with an early third-period tally, but the Bulldogs gave up two power-play goals over the last eight minutes to fall to Rensselaer 2-1 in ECAC Hockey action at the Houston Field House.
Three third-period power-play goals accounted for all the game's scoring on a night when the home team had a 36-33 edge in shots on target.
Ted Hart's goal 53 seconds into the final frame looked like it might hold up as the decisive score and get sophomore Corbin Kaczperski a win in his collegiate debut. However, the Elis could not stay out of the penalty box enough to get the two points.
The Engineers scored with 7:29 left to even things and then jumped on another advantage to find the winner with 2:56 remaining.
Kaczperski, a 6-foot-3, 185-pound goalie from China Township, Mich., stopped 34 shots and deserved a better fate. He made tough saves on a variety of quality chances including a couple of breakaways.
The Elis have another chance to pick up two points tomorrow night at Union.
