RICHMOND, Va. – The Yale University Football team erased a 27-14 deficit in the final 90 seconds at Richmond on Saturday night to complete an improbable comeback victory, 28-27. Senior quarterback Kurt Rawlings threw for all four touchdowns and the Bulldogs came up with the key onside kick and scored with just nine seconds left to take their first lead of the game.
 
Richmond (3-4, 1-1 CAA) scored the first 13 points of the game, led 20-7 at the half and 27-7 four minutes into the third quarter.
 
Trailing by two touchdowns with under two minutes left, Rawlings orchestrated the first score to senior captain J.P. Shohfi with 1:23 left to play. Shohfi then doubled down, coming up with needed onside kick recovery.
 
Rawlings then did it again, finding senior wide receiver Reed Klubnik with just nine second left to tie the game. Senior kicker Sam Tuckerman took care of the rest, drilling home the extra point to win the game.
 
With four touchdown passes, Rawlings is now tied for first with Alvin Cowan for the most touchdown passes in Yale history with 41.
 
The senior quarterback from Bel Air, Md., got better as the game went on and came up clutch with 249 yards on 25-of-42 passes. Two scores went to Klubnik while Shohfi and senior wideout Jaylan Sandifer each grabbed one.
 
The Bulldogs overcame a slow start but battled and got better as the game wore on to best a game Richmond squad.
 
The Spiders racked up 217 rushing yards but only converted 5-of-14 opportunities on third down while throwing an interception and missing two field goals.
 
Richmond was coming off of its biggest win of the season, besting then-No. 18 Maine.
 
The Bulldogs go 3-0 in nonconference play and move on to face Penn back at the Yale Bowl next Saturday at noon.
