Bulldogs Head to Penn

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Fresh off a 2-0 weekend, the Yale field hockey heads to Penn Saturday (12:00 p.m., ESPN+) looking to earn another Ivy League win.

BULLDOGS SWEEP WEEKEND
Yale (4-9, 1-3 Ivy League) enjoyed a memorable weekend last time out, topping Dartmouth 6-0 for an Ivy League win on Saturday and following up with a 2-1 win at Quinnipiac Sunday. The win over the Big Green was highlighted by the first career goal for senior forward Annina Zelkin (Lorton, Va.), along with a defensive save by senior back Alex MacKay (North Vancouver, B.C.) midway through the fourth quarter that helped preserve Yale's first shutout of the Big Green since a 1-0 double-overtime win Oct. 6, 2007. In Sunday's win at Quinnipiac, senior midfielder Bridget Condie (St. Louis, Mo.) scored the game-winner at 49:35.

OFFENSE TRENDING UP
With 30 goals this season, Yale needs just one more goal to match its total from all of last season. The Bulldogs have improved their goals-per-game average by 27 percent from 2018 (1.82 to 2.31).

CAPTAIN CONDIE ON A GOAL-SCORING STREAK
Senior midfielder Bridget Condie (St. Louis, Mo.) has a three-game goal scoring streak. She has tied her career high in goals (seven) and is one away from her career high in points (17 this season, 18 in 2017).

LEVIEUX KEEPS IVY GOAL SCORING STREAK INTACT
With a tally last Saturday vs. Dartmouth, junior forward/midfielder Olivia Levieux (Johannesburg, South Africa) has scored a goal in each of Yale's four Ivy League games. She is one of only seven Ivy players with at least four goals in Ivy games.

TERROSO KEEPS GETTING BETTER
Junior goalkeeper Sydney Terroso (York, Pa.) allowed only one goal on 14 shots last weekend and now is eighth in the nation in saves per game (6.54). She has improved her save percentage from .748 last year to .759 this year, lowering her goals-against average from 2.72 to 2.14.

KEYSTONE STATE BULLDOGS
Five Bulldogs call Pennsylvania home:
  • Junior forward Anissa Abboud (Bethlehem, Pa.) was captain and set the school record for goals in a season and a four-year career at Liberty.
  • Sophomore midfielder Théodora Dillman (Lancaster, Pa.) was captain and a three-time all-state selection at Conestoga Valley.
  • Sophomore back Laine Garber (Downingtown, Pa.) was captain and second team all-area at Downingtown West.
  • Senior back Tara Litjens (Kingston, Pa.) was captain and led West Morris Mendham (N.J.), the Daily Record Team of the Year, in goals and points as a senior.
  • Junior goalkeeper Sydney Terroso (York, Pa.) was captain and set the school record for shutouts in a season at Dallastown Area.
ALUMS WELCOMED BACK; MIFFLIN TO BE HONORED
Last weekend was Alums Weekend for the Yale Field Hockey program, highlighted by a halftime ceremony at Saturday's game in which all alums were acknowledged. The Bulldogs also recognized Lawrie Mifflin '73. She is one of five recipients of Yale's George H.W. Bush Lifetime of Leadership Award, which honors alumni athletes who, in their lives after Yale, have made significant leadership contributions in their worlds of governance, commerce, science and technology, education, public service, and the arts and media.

Mifflin, the first woman sports reporter at the New York Daily News, is best known for her long career (1982-2013) with the New York Times, mostly as senior editor.
As an undergraduate Mifflin was co-founder of the field hockey team and later its co-captain with Sandy Morse '74. She will be honored at Yale's Blue Leadership Ball on Nov. 22 at the William K. Lanman Center inside Payne Whitney Gym.

This past Saturday's ceremony was part of a larger celebration at Yale this year, as the university celebrates the anniversaries of the of the first women students at Yale. That includes the 50th anniversary of coeducation at Yale College and the 150th anniversary of the first graduate women on campus. Yale teams are wearing special "Lux et Femina" patches as part of the "50WomenAtYale150" celebration, which includes lectures, exhibitions, and performances throughout the 2019-20 academic year.

SCOUTING PENN
Penn (5-8, 2-2 Ivy League) has dropped two straight games by a goal, including a 6-5 overtime loss in Ivy League play vs. Columbia last Friday. Quakers goalie Ava Rosati, sister of Yale field hockey alum Mia Rosati '12, has a .598 save percentage and a 2.87 goals-against average.
