NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Yale Women's Hockey Team finished the weekend with 14 goals scored while allowing just three in a non-conference series sweep. Sophomore center Charlotte Welch and classmate winger Rebecca Vanstone each had a pair of tallies as the Bulldogs cruised to a 5-1 win over Long Island University at Ingalls Rink.
 
"We played a whole, 60-minute game," said Welch, a Winchester, Mass., native. "We didn't take them for granted. We are a more cohesive unit this year and there's a lot more communication out there."
 
Elle Hartje, who had a goal and an assist today, ended her first weekend of Yale hockey with four goals and six points, while sophomore center Claire Dalton added a pair of helpers today.
 
Junior Gianna Meloni got the start and the victory in Yale's net with 15 stops before giving way to rookie Courtney DeNaut (2 saves).
 
The Bulldogs (2-0) scored three in the first and a pair in the second to complete the sweep and set up their opening weekend of ECAC Hockey action at Dartmouth and Harvard.
