NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The Yale men's fencing team travels to Philadelphia to compete in the Elite Invitational, hosted by the University of Pennsylvania on Saturday. It is the season-opening meet for the Bulldogs.
Captain
Isaac Shelanski is eagerly anticipating the tournament, "It's a tough field for us to cut our teeth on and to see where we stand and what we can do. The team is strong, and I think we're ready to challenge any team in the country, so I'm looking forward to getting started this weekend."
Yale will open the competition against formidable foes from Penn State University and Notre Dame. While the Lions and the Irish are both known for their fencing prowess, the Bulldogs boast a talented roster of first years and veterans alike and will be going in ready to fight.
Yale will begin the afternoon going toe-to-toe with the New Jersey Institute of Technology. The Bulldogs did not have a chance to fence against the Highlanders last season.
In its penultimate match-up of the day, the Bulldogs will face off against the Ohio State Buckeyes.
Yale will finish off the day against Johns Hopkins. It has been several years since the Bulldogs and the Blue Jays have competed.
Fencing begins at 10 am on Saturday.
