NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Yale Bulldogs hit the road to start a two-game road swing as the Elis travel to Providence, R.I., on Saturday afternoon to take on the Brown Bears in Ivy League action at 12:30 p.m., on ESPN+. After playing its most complete game of the season in a 45-10 win over Columbia, Yale will look to improve to 7-1 overall for the third time in the past six seasons.
The Series
Saturday's matchup is the 124th all-time meeting as Yale leads the series 83-35-5, including a 20-11-3 mark on the road. The Bulldogs have won the past two meetings and five of the last six matchups. The Elis have topped 40 points in three of the past five games.
Receiving Recognition
For the 12
th straight week, Yale continues to receive votes in the STATS FCS Top-25 poll and are back in the AFCA Coaches poll, marking the 10th week the Elis are in both polls. The Bulldogs started with votes in the preseason poll and now have 71 votes in STATS's rankings which are the 33
rd-most in the nation.
Ivy & National Accolades
For the third-straight week and the fourth time in the past five weeks, senior quarterback
Kurt Rawlings has been selected as the Ivy League Offensive Player of the Week. Rawlings paced the Bulldogs in offensive shootout rout of Columbia as he orchestrated a 45-10 victory. The Bel Air, Md., native threw for a career-high 390 yards and became Yale's all-time leading passer in the process. He also found the endzone four times, rushing for two and throwing for two more. Reed Klubnik on the Walter Payton Award Watch List, the FCS Heisman.
Bulldog Breakdown
Riding a three-game win streak, the Bulldogs are playing its best ball of the year heading into its final road games of the season. Rawlings continues to add to his All-America resume and has a plethora of weapons at his disposal in addition to fellow All-America candidate Klubnik.
Senior captain
JP Shohfi put up 189 yards in the win over Columbia, the sixth most in single-game Yale history. He is just behind Klubnik with 34 catches, 600 yards and three touchdowns. 16 different Bulldogs have caught passes this season with four at 15 receptions or more.
In the backfield, junior
Zane Dudek has come on strong and is now up to 440 yards and five scores. He is 69 yards away from becoming the 12
th player in Yale history to reach 2,000 career rushing yards.
On the other side of the ball, the defense has turned up its intensity and attacking style with 55 tackles for loss and 14 sacks this season. Sophomore safety
Kyle Ellis lead the team with 21 solo tackles, 33 total stops and two interceptions. Junior linebacker
Rodney Thomas II returned from injury and continues to play well as he also has two picks, a forced fumble, four tackles for loss and 29 tackles.
Senior kicker
Sam Tuckerman continues to be one the best kickers in the Ivy League and the nation. He lead the Ivy league and ranks eighth in the country with a .875 field goal percentage. He averaged 6.7 points per game, fifth most in the conference.
Scouting Brown
The Bears are coming off back-to-back losses with the deciding field goal being kicked in the closing seconds with losses at Penn (38-36) and Cornell (37-35). They also lost a close game to URI (31-28) with those three losses coming by a combined seven points. Their lone win this season came in the season-opener at Bryant (35-30).
Junior quarterback EJ Perry, a transfer from Boston College and nephew of first-year head coach James Perry, ranks second in the nation in total offense with 351.3 yards per game. His 512 yards of total offense vs. URI earlier this season ranks second in Brown football history.
The Bears are averaging 437.7 total yards per game (29
th nationally) through seven games after averaging just 285.5 total yards per game in 2018.
Senior wide receiver Jakob Prall leads the Bears in receptions (30) and receiving yards (409). Sophomore running back Allen Smith has run for 58.1 yards per game and a team-high six touchdowns.
On Defense, sophomore linebacker Jason Medeiros, senior backer Brendan Pyne and senior lineman Michael Hoecht all have at least 32 tackles. Medeiros also lead the Bears with two interceptions while Hoecht has a team-high six tackles for loss.
