This WeekendÂ
The Bulldogs continue a stretch of five straight Ivy League road matches this weekend at Cornell and Columbia. Yale on Friday looks to break a tie for second place in the conference standings in its matchup against the Big Red. On Saturday, the Bulldogs travel to New York City and face Columbia. Despite the lost to Harvard last Saturday, Yale has won 12 of its last 14 matches.Â
Honor Roll
Sophomore Samantha Bray and first-year Maile Somera were both selected to the Ivy League Weekly Honor Roll for their performances last weekend. Bray averaged 4.29 kills per set and hit .436 with seven block assists. Somera averaged 4.14 digs per set. Â
Double-DigitsÂ
Senior Rebekah Nemeth gave the Bulldogs a lift last weekend with back-to-back double digit efforts in kills. Nemeth averaged 3.00 kills per set and hit .333 with four block assists. For the entire season, Nemeth leads the team with 2.74 kills per set. Â
Bray Leads the League
Entering the weekend, sophomore Samantha Bray leads the Ivy League in conference matches with a .446 hitting percentage. In all matches, she's averaging 2.66 kills per set and a .391 hitting percentage. She also leads the team in blocks with 48.Â
Arnautou Does It All
Senior Frances Arnautou has provided a lift in numerous statistical categories this season, and last weekend was no different. The San Francisco native last weekend in seven sets dished out 74 assists, came up with 19 digs, added six kills and served up two aces. For the entire season, she leads the team in assists, ranks second on the team in service aces, fourth in blocks and fifth in digs.Â
Scouting the Opponents
Cornell (15-4, 8-2 Ivy) - The Bulldogs defeated the Big Red in New Haven back on October 19. In conference play, Cornell is led by Madison Baptiste who averages 3.11 kills per set. The Big Red have had two conference rookie of the week winners: Joanna Chang and Emma Worthington.Â
Columbia (11-9, 4-6 Ivy) - Yale swept Columbia back on Oct. 18. The Lions are led by senior Chichi Ikwuazom, who earned Ivy League Player of the Week last week for the fifth time this season. Â
