Matinee vs. Sacred Heart at Lee Thursday

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – After 12 days without a game, the Yale women's basketball team returns to action Thursday vs. Sacred Heart (12:00 p.m., NESN, ESPN+). The special day game will include approximately 1,600 children from local schools in attendance at Lee Amphitheater.

Last Game
Yale (6-3, 0-0 Ivy League) last played on Dec. 6, falling at home to St. John's 80-66. The Bulldogs rallied to get within four with 2:40 to play before the Red Storm pulled away. Sophomore forward Camilla Emsbo (Lakewood, Colo.) led Yale with 20 points, adding seven rebounds.

Impressive Pace
Yale is averaging 72.9 points per game, best in the Ivy League. The last Yale team to average more than 70 points per game was the 1986-87 squad, which totaled 1,855 points in 26 games (71.3 ppg). The 1979-80 team holds the school record in that category, averaging 74.7 points per game.

Phi Beta Captain
On Dec. 9 senior forward Megan Gorman (Vero Beach, Fla.), Yale's captain, was inducted into the Phi Beta Kappa Society. Phi Beta Kappa is the oldest academic honor society in the country. Members include 17 U.S. Presidents, 41 Supreme Court Justices and more than 140 Nobel Laureates. Gorman was one of 61 Yale undergraduates elected to the society in the second election for the Class of 2020.

Students from any undergraduate major at Yale can be elected to Phi Beta Kappa at one of three elections for each class: the beginning of junior year, the beginning of senior year and at Commencement. Normally, election will be based upon the percentage of a student's Yale grades earned in straight A.

An Academic All-Ivy League selection last winter, Gorman is an economics major in Trumbull College at Yale. She spent the summer of 2019 interning as an analyst at Barclays Investment Bank in New York City.
In recognition of the honor Gorman was recently profiled on WTNH, the local ABC affiliate.

Barahman Closing in on Yale's Top 10
Senior guard Roxy Barahman (Calabasas, Calif.) enters Thursday's game 12th on Yale's all-time scoring list with 1,199 points. Sarah Halejian '15 is 11th with 1,226 points and Erica Davis '07 is 10th with 1,262 points. If Barahman maintains her current season scoring average (16.6 points per game) for the final 18 games of the regular season, she will end the regular season with 1,498 points. That would put her fourth on Yale's career list. Mary Kalich '95 holds the Yale career scoring record with 1,663 points.

Connecticut Rivals
Yale's game with Sacred Heart marks the Bulldogs' second game this season against a Connecticut opponent. Earlier this season, they beat Quinnipiac 63-59. Prior to that, Yale's last game against a school from the Nutmeg State was a 58-46 win vs. CCSU on Dec. 20, 2018, at Lee Amphitheater.

Carolina In Their Mind
Following Thursday's game the Bulldogs will temporarily disperse for the holidays. The team will regroup in North Carolina on Dec. 26 and play at UNC on Dec. 28. That trip marks a homecoming for sophomore guard Robin Gallagher (Cary, N.C.). Gallagher was Southwest Wake Athletic Conference Player of the Year in 2017 and a two-time first team all-conference for Athens Drive Magnet High School in Raleigh.

Scouting Sacred Heart
Sacred Heart (3-6, 0-0 NEC) has dropped three in a row, including a 65-52 loss to Holy Cross this past Saturday. The Pioneers made it to the WNIT last season, winning 19 games, but lost three All-NEC players to graduation. The lone returning All-NEC pick, third-team selection Adrianne Hagood, leads the team in scoring (16.5 points per game) and is shooting 41.2 percent from three-point range.
