BRIDGEPORT, Conn. – Dante Palecco and Brett Jewell had goals and Nicholas MacNab stopped 18 of 20 shots, but the Yale Men's Hockey Team fell, 6-2, to Sacred Heart in the second semifinal of the 2020 CT Ice at Webster Bank Arena.
The Pioneers jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first 15 minutes, which was enough to get them to the tournament's championship game at 7 p.m. against Quinnipiac, 3-2 winners over UConn in game one.
The Elis, who will meet UConn on Sunday in the consolation game at 3:30, cut the lead to 4-1 early in the second period when Palecco, a junior forward, one-timed a Will D'Orsi feed to the slot on the power play. It was the fourth goal of the season for Palecco, and it gave his squad brief hope for a comeback.
Senior Corbin Kaczperski got the start in net for Yale and had five saves over the first 15 minutes before MacNab, a junior, came on to slow down SHU, which ended up with a pair of power-play tallies on seven attempts.
Jewell, a sophomore center, scored a late power-play goal, which made the Bulldogs 2-for-8 on the night.
