Box Score PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Yale Women's Hockey Team has equaled the program record for consecutive wins with a 3-1 decision in a goalie battle at Brown tonight at Meehan Auditorium. Senior
Tera Hofmann stopped 23 of 24 shots as the Bulldogs won their sixth straight and tied both the 1985-86 and the 2003-04 teams for the school record.
Three different Elis found the net as the visitors outshot the Bears 39-24 but went scoreless on four advantages. Hofmann, who had 13 of her saves in the second period, came up with a few quality stops to avoid the upset bid.
The Bulldogs (13-8-0, 10-4-0), now tied for fourth with 20 points in the ECAC standings, killed off a penalty before posting the first goal of the night on a pretty one-timer by sophomore
Charlotte Welch. The Yale center was set up in the low slot by linemate
Claire Dalton, who carried toward the net and flicked a perfect, backhanded pass for Welch's 10
th tally of the year midway through the opening frame.
Yale increased the lead to 2-0 on a shot that caught Brown goalie Calla Isaac (36 saves) by surprise. Sophomore
Kaitlyn Rippon grabbed the puck between the circle and crease, while facing away from the net, and spun to flick a shot on the ice through some traffic and between Isaac's legs with 3:27 left in the first.
The Bears notched the only goal of the second period to set up the drama over the final 20 minutes. That included a few home team grade-A scoring chances thwarted by Hofmann and then an empty-net goal from
Rebecca Vanstone, who was set up by Dalton.
The Bulldogs have a short work week with an important ECAC home set this weekend that includes the White Out on Saturday. Yale hosts Princeton at 6 p.m. on Friday before a 3 p.m. Saturday game against Quinnipiac that honors the memory of Mandi Schwartz while raising awareness for marrow donations.
