Bulldogs Outshoot Bobcats But Fall 3-1

Meloni Makes 27 Saves, Welch Gets 11th Goal

Box Score NEW HAVEN, Conn. –  Gianna Meloni stopped 27 of 30 shots and Charlotte Welch found the net for her 11th goal of the year, but the Yale Women's Hockey Team fell 3-1 to Quinnipiac at Ingalls Rink.

The Bulldogs, who have won six of their last eight games and sit in fifth place in the ECAC Hockey Standings, outshot the Bobcats 31-30 but could not solve visiting goalie Abbie Ives (30 saves).

The Bobcats scored with five seconds left in the opening period and the Elis did not respond until 9:25 into the second. That's when Claire Dalton fired a low pass toward the slot that Welch re-directed past Ives. The 1-1 score lasted until 8:50 of the third, and Quinnipiac added an insurance tally late in the frame.

Meloni, who made 26 saves in the 2-1 loss to Princeton on Friday and had 53 this weekend, stopped 10 shots in the third today.

Mark Bolding, Yale's Susan Cavanagh Head Coach of Women's Hockey, witnessed his first White Out for Mandi Schwartz today with a big crowd cheering on the Bulldogs. "It was a great atmosphere today. We played very hard, just like Mandi would have, but we didn't get any points this weekend, so we are in a desperate mode."

Yale is next in action at St. Lawrence and Clarkson next weekend, a pair of important league contests.
