KANEOHE, Oahu – The third time was the charm for the Yale Women's Golf Team at the Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational. After a practice round and a marginal first round, the Elis shaved 10 strokes off in the second round and now sit eighth among the 16-team field heading into today's final 18 holes.
The Bulldogs, one shot better than the University of Hawaii, went from 303 to 293 and are sitting five shots over par at 596 when they wake up for today's round. That turnaround was ignited by the play of sophomore
Ami Gianchandani, who improved on her second round by 11 shots to shoot a 67, the best score of the day for anyone.
"Conditions were breezy today and we got off to a slower start in round one, but bounced back in round 2, led by
Ami Gianchandani's five under, 67," said Yale Head Coach
Lauren Harling. "I'm proud of the fight I saw today. Almost every Yale player improved in the afternoon and we are looking forward to a strong final round."
Kaitlyn Lee, Ashley Au, Beryl Wang, Coco Chai and Gianchandani are all paired with golfers from San Diego State, Nevada and Kennesaw State, while
Gabrielle DeSombre and Amy Zhang have a combination of Xavier, Hawaii, Seattle and Stetson.
Yale, the only school from the Northeast playing in the invitational, has an 8:05 a.m. local start time on the 6,099-yard, par-72 Kane'ohe Klipper Golf Course.
