PRINCETON, N.J. -- Audrey Leak had a team-high 13 kills in a hard-fought 3-1 loss at Princeton on Friday night. The scores of the match were 23-25, 25-15, 25-21 and 25-22.
Playing for the first time since the two teams met nearly two years ago in the Ivy League playoff, the Bulldogs took the first set but could not close out the Tigers on the road. Kathryn Attar added 11 kills and eight digs, while Carly Diehl had 41 assists and 11 digs.
Bonnie Bostic, Sam Bray and Fatima Samb all had nine kills each. Maile Somera had a team-high 14 digs.
The Bulldogs dropped to 10-5 overall and 3-3 in league play. Princeton remains undefeated at 6-0 in the Ivy League standings.
Yale stormed out in the first set and hit an efficient .244 and made big plays. Leak gave the Bulldogs a 10-8 lead with a kill and Yale never trailed the rest of the set. Bostic added another kill to make it 16-12, and Attar closed out the set.
The Tigers took the final three sets, but the Bulldogs showed fight. Yale used an 11-3 run in the fourth to tie the set at 21-21 before Princeton scored four of the final five points.
The third set was similar. Yale scored three straight with kills from Attar and Bostic, and Diehl and Samb combined on a block to tie the set at 20-20 before Princeton used a late run to take the set and 2-1 lead in the match.
The Bulldogs return to action tomorrow at Penn for a 5 p.m. first serve.
