Bulldogs Stay Hot, Blank Dartmouth 4-0

NEW HAVEN, Conn. -- The Yale field hockey team won for the fourth time in five games Saturday, blanking Dartmouth 4-0 at Johnson Field behind six saves from sophomore goalkeeper Luanna Summer. Four players had goals and four players had assists as the Bulldogs continued to display their offensive depth. They have outscored their last five opponents 19-8.

"Our ability to attack our 25 and the circle from multiple areas of the field and with a variety of people is a strength," said Pam Stuper, Yale's Caroline Ruth Thompson '02 Head Coach of Field Hockey.

With rain throughout the game, including a few downpours, the Bulldogs took control early. They outshot Dartmouth 6-0 in the first quarter and went ahead 1-0 on a give-and-go penalty corner goal by junior midfielder Théodora Dillman, assisted by junior midfielder Alissa Wong, at 14:21.

Another corner goal, this one by senior midfielder Imogen Davies off a Dillman assist, gave the Bulldogs a 2-0 lead shortly before halftime. They then extended the lead with a goal 84 seconds into the second half, as a fake by Dillman on a corner enabled senior midfielder Sarah King to set up sophomore forward/midfielder Ashley Kim for a goal. Kim now has three goals and an assist in the last four games.

"Ashley has had a great season," said Stuper. "She has been playing up to her ability, and that has resulted in those goals and assists. It is nice to see her getting rewarded."

First-year forward Lily Ramsey capped the scoring with a long-distance goal off a feed from senior forward/midfielder Kelly Dolan at 39:33. The Bulldogs limited Dartmouth (4-11, 0-6 Ivy League) to just three shots -- none on goal -- in the fourth quarter to finish off the shutout.

"This week we focused on our defense, and wanted to tidy up some things," said Stuper. "That helped us give up fewer defensive penalty corners and get more stops outside the 25."

Yale (8-8, 3-3 Ivy League) hosts Cornell next Saturday in the final game of the season.
