A young Yale men's soccer team showed great maturity and poise Tuesday at Hartford. Twice the Bulldogs found themselves down a goal, and twice they answered. The result was a 2-2 draw on an overcast and cool night at Al Marzook Field in West Hartford.
"These are tricky games and can reveal a lot of character," said
Kylie Stannard, the 5K Corral Head Coach of the Bulldogs. "We are disappointed not to get the win but I'm pleased with how we responded when going down on two occasions. These are important learning moments that will help us in the future."
Â
Sandor Pelle and
Eric Lagos scored for Yale.
Â
Hartford struck first late in the first half when Patrick Gryczewski scored at 41:43.
Â
The Bulldogs tied it early in the second half. A corner kick was cleared out to Pelle, who quickly chipped a shot inside the near post for his first career goal.
Â
The Hawks regained the lead in transition in the 77
th minute when Gryczewski outmaneuvered a Yale defender for a long forward ball and fired a shot inside the far post.
Â
Yale, though, again responded. With 2:10 remaining,
Sigfus Arnason sent a gorgeous free kick into the box that Lagos headed into the back of the net.
Â
Goalkeeper
Elian Haddock made two saves for the Bulldogs, including a big stop in the final seconds of regulation that forced overtime.
Â
It was the second straight draw for Yale, which played Harvard to a scoreless tie on Saturday.
Â
The Bulldogs return to Ivy League play when they host Dartmouth on Saturday. Kickoff at Reese Stadium is slated for 7 p.m.
