NEW HAVEN, Conn.. — The No. 8 Elis followed up their win against Virginia with a dominant, 9-0 outing against No. 12 Western University on Sunday at the Brady Center. 
 
The match featured seven 3-0 sweeps, three of which came from first-years No. 4 Maxwell Orr, No. 5 Brian Leonard and No. 9 Nikhil Ismail. Orr and Leonard also swept their Virginia opponents on Saturday. Two contests went to five games—senior Tyler Carney's win at the No. 8 seed and first-year Taylor Clayton's win at No. 10. Carney came back from an 0-2 deficit to best his opponent in the longest match of the afternoon.
 
Sophomore Jed Burde (No. 6), who also defeated his opponent handily in three games, attributes Yale's early success to the coaches. "Our training and preparation enabled our success as a team this weekend," said Burde. "Our coaches Lynn Leong and Campbell Grayson, strength coach Wayne Newman, and trainer Trevor Thompson have fostered a very professional and dedicated training culture this year."
 
Speaking on behalf of the team, Burde said that everyone is "thrilled with the performance, but it's over now and we direct our attention to the match ahead."
 
The Bulldogs (2-0, 0-0 Ivy) open Ivy-League play for the season on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. when they face off against unranked Brown at the Brady Center.
