Bulldogs Put Unbeaten Mark on the Line vs. Maine, St. John’s

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Yale women's basketball team wraps up a particularly busy stretch of the season (three games in five days) with a pair of games this weekend. After beating Sacred Heart 60-53 Wednesday night, the Bulldogs host Maine Friday (6:00 p.m., ESPN+, Live Stats) and then visit St. John's Sunday (1:00 p.m., FloHoops, Live Stats). The Bulldogs are 3-0 for the fifth time in school history.
 
Last Game
Yale (3-0, 0-0 Ivy League) won 60-53 at Sacred Heart Wednesday night. Junior forward Camilla Emsbo (Lakewood, Colo.) had a game-high 26 points and 15 rebounds to go along with three blocks. Sophomore guard Jenna Clark (Pittsburgh, Pa.) added 13 points and six assists, while senior forward Alex Cade (Shaker Heights, Ohio) finished with 10 points and seven rebounds. The Bulldogs committed only nine turnovers and had a 48-36 advantage in rebounds, which helped them to a 17-2 edge in second-chance points.
 
A Long Time Winning
Dating back to its most recent season, 2019-20, Yale has won five games in a row. The Bulldogs' last loss was Feb. 29, 2020 (64-49 at Princeton). The Bulldogs have won seven straight non-league games. Their last non-league loss was Dec. 6, 2019 (80-66 vs. St. John's).
 
Busy Start to Season for Clark  
Sophomore guard Jenna Clark (Pittsburgh, Pa.) is averaging 39.66 minutes per game, the fifth-highest total in the nation. She has had at least 13 points, five assists and four rebounds in every game. In Wednesday's 60-53 win at Sacred Heart she had six assists and only one turnover.
 
Emsbo Triples Up on Double-Doubles
Junior forward Camilla Emsbo (Lakewood, Colo.) has double-doubles in each of the season's first three games -- making her one of only nine players in the nation with that many double-doubles. She also ranks fifth nationally in blocked shots with 10. She is averaging 16.3 points per game and an Ivy League-best 11.7 rebounds per game. She had nine double-doubles in her most recent season, 2019-20. 
 
Poll Position
Yale was among the teams receiving votes in the CollegeInsider.com Women's Mid-Major Top 25 poll for Nov.16. The Bulldogs got 14 points in the poll.
 
Home is Where the Wins Are
Yale is 51-24 (.680) at John J. Lee Amphitheater since the start of the 2014-15 season. The Bulldogs' last loss at home was Feb. 22, 2020 (74-65 vs. Columbia). They are 10-4 (.714) in their last 14 home games.
 
A Historically Good Start
This is the fifth time in school history, and first time since 1998-99, that Yale has started a season 3-0. The 1998-99 team is the only one to start a season 4-0.
 
Scouting Maine
Maine (0-3, 0-0 America East) has allowed an average of 85.7 points per game in dropping its first three games. The Black Bears were 17-3 (13-2 America East) last year but lost three starters from that team. They were picked for second in the America East poll this season.
 
Scouting St. John's
St. John's (2-1, 0-0 Big East) is coming off a 76-67 win at Temple Wednesday night. The Red Storm, picked to finish seventh in the Big East preseason poll, are averaging 75.0 points per game.
