Vanstone Scores Twice in 3-2 Win over BU

Bargman, Hartje add two points in 10th Yale Victory

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Rebecca Vanstone scored two goals and Anna Bargman had a goal and an assist as the No. 7 Yale Women's Hockey Team beat Boston University 3-2 at Ingalls Rink to register its 10th victory of the year.

The Bulldogs, who are sixth in the national pairwise rankings and fifth in the ECAC Hockey standings, never trailed while outshooting the Terriers 31-19. The home team got 17 saves from Pia Dukaric, who earned her fourth win in the Yale net.

"We got going in the second," said Mark Bolding, Yale's Susan Cavanagh Head Coach. "I thought the Hartje, Vanstone and Bargman line was fantastic. We spread it out and it was nice to see Pia (Dukaric) stand tall and get the win."

The Yale forecheck caused a turnover which enabled the Blue to grab the game's first tally late in the opening period. Elle Hartje, who leads the team with 18 assists after a pair of helpers tonight, knocked the puck away from a BU blueliner behind the goal line as Vanstone was entering the slot after a line change. Vanstone one-timed the loose puck stick side with 2:03 left.

"Both [of my] goals came off really good forechecking by my linemates," said Vanstone, who now has eight goals and 14 points this season. "We've been working on it a lot and it really paid off. They were gifts and I was very fortunate."

After the Terriers tied the score in the second, the vaunted Yale power play got clicking. Bargman crashed the net after an Emma Seitz shot from the point and banged home the rebound for her fourth of the year to make it 2-1.

Almost a minute later, Hartje carried the puck through the slot and then slipped it to Vanstone, who twirled it from forehand to backhand before slipping it past Kate Stuart for 3-1 advantage

The visitors got one back and made things a little scary at the end, especially when they pulled their goalie for an extra skater and put a quality shot on Dukaric with 18 seconds left.
