Souliotis, Tinker Earn NWHL Honors

Bulldog Blueliners Take Post-Season Prizes

BROOKLYN, N.Y. – A pair of Yale standouts, Mallory Souliotis '18 and Saroya Tinker '20, had their names called twice last night when the National Women's Hockey League honored excellence on the ice and in the community by presenting its major awards for the 2020-21 season.

Mallory SouliotisSouliotis, a member of the 2021 NWHL Champions Boston Pride, earned one of the league's foundation awards for her efforts in the community. The Acton, Mass., native donated her jersey and shirsey proceeds to the Epilepsy Foundation New England and matched online donors to raise $654.

Souliotis, a research associate for EMD Serono Inc. in Boston who works with drugs before they go to trials, recently began studying for a master's in bioengineering. She picked up another honor last night as one of the NWHL Three Stars of the Season as selected by the fans. The blueliner finished with three goals in seven games, including one in the Isobel Cup Semifinals late last month.

Tinker of the Metropolitan Riveters was named the Denna Laing Award recipient exemplifying the qualities of perseverance, sportsmanship, and dedication to her sport. The Oshawa, Ont., native is the first Black player to be chosen for this award producing one assist in three games as a rookie defender. She's also been a leader for social justice, the fight against racism, and making hockey a more inclusive space since joining the league as the fourth overall pick in the 2020 NWHL Draft.

Saroya TinkerThe more recent Bulldog, who has been featured in numerous national stories on impactful women in professional sports, also earned an NWHL Foundation Award for actively applying the core values of hockey to her community as well as growing and improving hockey culture. Tinker actively supports Black Girl Hockey Club and helped raise over $30,000 to build a scholarship fund.
