Box Score STORRS, Conn. -- Yale swept NJIT on Friday afternoon and won its fifth straight match to open the Dog Pound Challenge hosted by UConn. The scores of the match were 25-15, 25-11 and 25-13. With the win, Yale improved to 6-1 on the season.
Bonnie Bostic led the way for Yale with 12 kills, including six in the opening set, as the Bulldogs hit .424 for the match. Maile Somera paced Yale on defense with 17 digs.
As a team, the Bulldogs hit .531 for the first set. Gigi Barr started a 10-2 run midway through the first to give Yale a commanding 21-12 lead. Barr finished with an efficient six kills on nine swings without an error.
Set two began with a 9-2 Yale run. Sam Bray, Tiffany Pedersen-Henry, Barr and Bostic all had kills during the run, which included aces from Mila Yarich and captain Ellis DeJardin. The Bulldogs scored the final four points capped by Audrey Leak, who delivered a kill to bring the game to set point.
Bray headlined a 7-0 run in the third to extend Yale's lead. Bray accounted for three straight points, including back-to-back solo blocks and a kill.
Carly Diehl added a team-high 23 assists, while Renee Shultz added nine for the match.
The Bulldogs will return to the court tomorrow morning to face Bryant at 10 a.m., and later in the day take on UConn at 7 p.m.
