ATLANTA – Former Yale football standout and current Atlanta Falcons middle linebacker
Foye Oluokun '18 capped a historical season on Sunday as he led the National Football League with 192 total tackles, the seventh-highest total in league history.
Oluokun put forth his best season as a pro since being selected in the sixth round of the 2018 NFL Draft as he also led the NFL with 90 assisted tackles and finished the year with two sacks and three interceptions.
The St. Louis, Mo., native is the first player to crack the all-time top-10 in tackles since Ray Lewis had 184 tackles in 1997 with the Ravens. Former Jaguars linebacker Hardy Nickerson holds the NFL record with 214 tackles in 1993.
"If you look back on it, all the work that you put in and where I came from, just getting tackles and having the team rely on you like that — that's what really means a lot to me," remarked Oluokun during his postgame press conference. "Numbers are numbers, but having the team rely on you to be in those positions and come out with that amount of work in my last season of the contract, that's cool stuff just thinking about it from the outside looking in."
Oluokun was also quick to point out the hard work that has brought him to this point as well as his excitement on learning from the film and getting better for next season.
The former All-Ivy Leaguer had 12 games with 10-or-more tackles this season and has 462 career stops over 64 total games included 41 starts.
Oluokun is a free agent this offseason and ranks as one of the most sought-after linebackers available.
