NEW HAVEN, Conn. –
Ian Carpentier had a goal and an assist,
Justin Pearson had a goal and then scored in the shootout and
Nathan Reid made 33 saves as the Yale Men's Ice Hockey Team won an ECAC Hockey shootout after skating to a 2-2 overtime tie with Colgate at Ingalls Rink.
Both teams got one point in the conference standings for the draw, the Bulldogs got an additional one for the shootout win that included goals by
Teddy Wooding and Pearson and two saves by Reid on two Colgate chances.
Reid, who made a great toe save on a breakaway in the third period to preserve the tie, made three stops on grade A opportunities in the OT and then helped win the shootout.
Pearson opened the scoring when fired a shot over Mitch Benson's glove in the first period. Colgate tied things before intermission and then Carpentier banged in a second-period rebound for another Yale lead.
The visitors answered again in the second and the third period was scoreless. Reid stopped two OT breakaways to set up Yale's shootout win, the first ever at Ingalls Rink in the first year of the new rule in conference play.
"It was a great bounce back win. The guys have been through a lot the last few weeks," said
Keith Allain '80, Yale's Malcolm G. Chace Head Coach. "They played last night and had to play again tonight tired against a team that was fresh (Colgate did not have another game this weekend). We got better each period and we were stronger in the third then we were in the first. The guys deserve a lot of credit for the way they played tonight."
